Veterinary authorities in the UK and Scotland have confirmed the country’s first premises outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) for the 2026/27 reporting season. The disease was confirmed on Friday, October 2, 2026, at a premises in Ness on the Isle of Lewis, northwestern Scotland. Laboratory tests identified the strain as highly pathogenic H5N5.
