Animal outbreaks of Avian Influenza A(H5) in the Americas have decreased by 25.7% so far in 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, with no human cases reported in the region through mid-August, according to the latest epidemiological update by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Between January 1 and July 15, 2026, ten countries across the Americas documented a total of 455 animal outbreaks (386 in birds and 69 in mammals), down from 612 outbreaks during the same period in 2025. The United States recorded the majority of cases (301 outbreaks), followed by Peru (49), Chile (42), Argentina (23), and Canada (21).
Through Epidemiological Week 32 of 2026, no human infections with avian influenza A(H5) have been detected in the Americas. Globally, nine human cases (including two deaths) were reported in 2026 across Bangladesh, Cambodia, and India.
