Health authorities have issued a serious food safety alert after at least 13 people fell ill with salmonellosis linked to contaminated fresh eggs originating from Spain. The European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) published an alert notification (Reference 2026.8921) classified with a "serious" risk level. The affected batches have also been distributed outside of Spain, including to Portugal. In response, Spanish food safety authorities (AESAN) ordered an immediate withdrawal and recall of the implicated batches from the market to prevent further infections. Health officials confirmed that the affected product line has been removed from commercial distribution channels. Spanish authorities have not publicly released the producer code stamped on the contaminated eggs.
