Brazil: Newcastle Disease Outbreak in Santa Catarina

19 October 2026

On October 18, 2026, Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture confirmed an outbreak of Newcastle disease at a commercial turkey farm in the state of Santa Catarina. Following the announcement, international trade partners, led by Mexico, began imposing temporary import restrictions on Brazilian poultry, poultry products, and hatching eggs pending an assessment of the outbreak's scope.
Brazil’s previous outbreak of the virus occurred in 2024 within a commercial broiler flock in Rio Grande do Sul.
