Midwest Poultry Services has voluntarily recalled nearly 1.6 million dozen shell eggs produced in Texas due to potential contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis. The recall encompasses both white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the affected products were distributed to major retail chains, including Kroger stores across Texas and Louisiana, as well as Brookshire Grocery locations in states such as Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
This multi-state outbreak of Salmonella resulted in 98 confirmed cases across 17 states between late November 2025 and end of June 2026. Public health investigations identified egg consumption as the primary exposure vector, reported by over 90% of interviewed patients prior to onset. While the outbreak required 26 hospitalizations, no fatalities were documented. Midwest Poultry Services has halted the distribution of all eggs originating from its Texas farming facilities while investigations continue.
