In Kobande,Kreis Parchim (Mecklenburg-West Pommerania), Germany, low pathogenic avian influenza (type H5N2) has been detected in a mixed poultry holding with 19,385 animals (13,777 ducks, 4,183 geese, 870 laying hens, 475 turkeys, 80 guinea fowls) all birds will be killed by the ministry of agriculture.
The infection came to the forefront during a routine control, which is part of the monitoring programme for avian influenza.
The animals did not show any clinical signs. The infection has been confirmed by the national reference lab. The region is now under quarantine, including a protection area of 1 kilometre around the farm.
