As part of the continuous avian influenza surveillance programme, Jeollanam-do Institute of Livestock and Veterinary Science tested samples (fæces and laryngo-pharyngeal swabs) collected from a duck farm in Sukma-ri, Jangsung-gun on 27 October. Haemagglutination test results were positive on 1 November. National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service (NVRQS) found avian influenza antigen (H7) by PCR on 3 November and confirmed it as low pathogenic avian influenza virus (H7N6) by gene sequencing on 4 November.
As a precautionary measure, all poultry in the affected farm were culled on 3 November.
