Research: A predominant Multidrug resistant Salmonella Saintpaul clonal line in German turkey and related food products

08 April 2010

In recent years Salmonella (S.) enterica subsp. enterica serovar Saintpaul has increasingly been observed in several countries including Germany. However its pathogenic potential and epidemiological relatedness is not very well known. This study describes the biological attributes of S. Saintpaul isolates from turkey origin in Germany by characterizing their pheno- and genotypic properties. The study reveals that a multiresistant S. Saintpaul clonal line is predominant in turkey production and turkey products in Germany, and can also be detected among German human faecal and Dutch poultry isolates (Beutlich et al., Appl Environ Microbiol, 2010).
