Korea

21 May 2010

An avian influenza case of H7N7 (LPAI) was diagnosed in poultry in Wolya-myeon, Korea.
As part of the avian influenza surveillance programme, Jeollanam-do Institute of Livestock and Veterinary Science took samples (faeces, laryngo-pharyngeal swabs and blood) from the farms on 13 May. Haemagglutination test results were positive on 18 May. The National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service (NVRQS) found avian influenza antigen (H7) by PCR on 20 May and confirmed it as low pathogenic avian influenza virus (H7N7) by gene sequencing on 21 May.
The poultry in the farms were culled as a precautionary measure and disinfection is being implemented on 21 May.
