According to the Quarterly Meat Poultry Sector Indicators Report published by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA):
-Production and Slaughter Dynamics: Poultry meat production in Spain from January to May 2026 increased by 4.9% in total volume (tonnage) and 2.4% in slaughtered animals compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
-Domestic Consumption Trends: Spanish household chicken meat consumption grew by 5.4% year-over-year in the January–November 2025 period (reaching 565,947 tonnes), continuing an upward recovery following earlier post-pandemic contractions. In contrast, fresh turkey consumption decreased by 2.0% (50,837 tonnes) during the same interval.
-Farm Census and Structural Distribution: The total active poultry holdings in Spain reached 24,553 farms by mid-2026. Specialized broiler meat farms accounted for 4,913 establishments as of April 2026, with the overwhelming majority dedicated directly to meat production (4,487 farms).
-Foreign Trade Performance: From January to April 2026, Spanish poultry imports expanded by 4.2% to 115,486 tonnes (led by intra-EU purchases at 92,159 tonnes). Overall poultry exports experienced a minor contraction of 1.4% to 94,923 tonnes. While intra-EU shipments declined by 8.04% during Q1 2026 (largely due to reductions in exports to Germany and the Netherlands), extra-EU exports recorded strong growth across African destinations, including Benin (+22.7%), Togo (+53.9%), and Guinea (+104.1%).
