H-strain was isolated and attenuated by Bijlenga et al (1956) Tijdschrift Diergeneesk Vol 81:43, "Infectious bronchitis in chicks in the Netherlands" Tijdschr. Diergeneesk. (1960) 85:320 Tijdschr. Diergeneesk. (1960) 85:279 Tijdschr. Diergeneesk. (1960) 85:398.
The H52 and H120 strains have been passaged 52 and 120 times respectively in embryonated chicken eggs and have a relatively broad immunizing capacity. The H standing for the initial letter of the name (Huyben) of the owner of the broiler farm in the province of Brabant, in the southern part of the Netherlands, from which the virus was isolated.
793B: The first isolation of the 793/B type of IBV type was in 1985, in France. Cavanagh et al., 1998; Sequence analysis of strains of the 793/B genotype (CR88, 4/91) of IBV isolated between 1985 and 1997. Proceedings of the International Symposium on Infectious Bronchitis and Pneumovirus Infections in Poultry, June (pp. 252-256). Rauischholzhausen , Germany.
The GA08 strain was first identified in the southeastern United States, specifically in northern Georgia, during an outbreak in 2007–2008. Phylogenetic analyses place GA08 in Genotype I, lineage 27 (GI-27).
Variant 2 (Var 2) or Israel Variant 2 (IS-Var2), Genotype I, Lineage 23 (GI-23). During a severe epidemic wave across the Middle East in 2006, a hypervirulent isolate was characterized and designated as IS/1494/06, also known as "Var 2." The isolate was identified by Dr. Rosi Meir of the Kimron Veterinary Institute in Israel.
The QX strain of Avian Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) originated in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. The prefix "QX" is derived from the location of its initial emergence. Year of First Isolation: 1996. Discovered By: Dr. Wang Y. D. and colleagues.
