Starting in March 2020, measles vaccinations will become mandatory for children in Germany. A law recently passed by the German Parliament requires parents to vaccinate their children; otherwise, they will be barred from attending daycare centers, kindergartens, and schools. Furthermore, parents who violate this law risk facing fines of up to €2,500.
Since monovalent (single-component) vaccines are currently unavailable, both in Germany and internationally, as manufacturers prioritize the production of multivalent vaccines, this law effectively mandates that citizens also be vaccinated against mumps and rubella, and in certain cases, varicella (chickenpox). The lack of a standalone vaccine option may present a significant legal challenge.
