Cameroon has become the first country in the world to launch a routine malaria vaccination campaign for children as part of its national immunization program. The vaccine in use is GSK’s RTS,S. While the vaccine was previously piloted in several African nations, this initiative marks the start of a broader, large-scale distribution effort across the continent.
The vaccination schedule consists of four doses and is intended for children aged six months and older.
Other African nations moving forward with the implementation of this vaccine include Benin, Burkina Faso, and Liberia.
