This review article summarizes the current knowledge on avian metapneumovirus (aMPV), highlighting the recent re-emergence of subtypes A and B in the United States. It further identifies critical research gaps regarding transmission dynamics, host-pathogen interactions, and control strategies, proposing future directions to advance diagnostic surveillance and vaccine development.
