Avian Influenza in Iceland
10 December, 2024
In November, a case of avian influenza H5N5 was identified in a seagull captured near Tjönun, Reykjavík’s central pond. In October, the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST) issued an uncertainty phase following the confirmation of H5N5 infections in two birds in North and Southeast Iceland.
Iceland has now reported its first case in a commercial poultry flock, involving 1,300 meat turkeys at a farm in Sudurland (Southern Region). Additionally, H5N5 has been detected on a poultry farm in northern England and in a backyard poultry flock in Norway.
