Second Iowa avian influenza outbreak

8 March, 2022

Avian influenza has been detected in a second flock in Iowa. This time it is a commercial turkey flock - 50,000 birds.
The 15-week-old turkeys were destroyed at a Buena Vista County facility to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus.
On March 4, 2022, HPAI was detected in Pottawattamie, Iowa, in a 50-bird non-poultry, backyard mixed-species flock. Iowa is the nation's leading egg producer.
