Bird flu spreads to dairy cattle in Iowa and Minnesota

An avian influenza outbreak has spread to 11 states, including Iowa and Minnesota where the first positive cases were confirmed. This adds to the growing number of affected herds across the U.S., surpassing 80 confirmed cases. In Iowa, the virus was detected in O’Brien County, adjacent to Sioux County where a severe outbreak affected millions of birds. Minnesota also reported its first case in dairy cattle in Benton County, following an increase in bird flu cases among poultry farms. Several sites showed infections from the same strain found in the dairy cows.
