USDA limits poultry imports from France
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) made an announcement on September 29 regarding the imposition of restrictions on the import of poultry from France and its European Union trading partners. This decision was prompted by France's move to administer vaccinations to meat ducks as a precaution against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). APHIS expressed concerns that such vaccinations could potentially introduce HPAI into the United States. Consequently, the United States prohibits the import of poultry from countries affected by HPAI or from flocks that have been vaccinated against HPAI.
The restrictions against French poultry and related products took effect on October 1 and encompass live ducks, duck eggs, and untreated duck items from France's trading partners.
