First positive detection of HPAI in an elephant seal

The National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) in Argentina disclosed fresh findings related to a highly virulent H5 avian influenza strain in marine mammals inhabiting Chubut province's southern region. This revelation encompasses the first positive detection in an elephant seal.
These marine mammals, comprising both southern elephant seals and sea lions, were discovered deceased in three coastal municipalities within the province: Comodoro Rivadavia, Rada Tilly, and Punta Tombo.
