Israel: two new outbreaks of H5N1
The Israeli Veterinary Services reports an H5N1 avian influenza case in a turkey flock in Beit Halevi (Central Israel). The flock is 10.5 weeks old and has about 15,000 birds. The flock has been destroyed.
The suspicion arose following mortality and morbidity with nervous signs in the female house. A quick response by the attending veterinarian resulted in a quick diagnosis of the event. In 2015, the disease was diagnosed on the same farm.
A second outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza was diagnosed at a broiler farm in Kfar Monesh. The flock is 5.5 weeks old and its destruction is expected. The farm has 70,000 birds. The outbreak that is adjacent to the event in Beit Halevi and is not surprising - the density of farms, and the adjacent water reservoirs are potential risk factors.
The infected farms are separated by a distance of 890 meters only.
