Mexico detects first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mexico confirmed a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1, a strain of the virus that has caused serious outbreaks in Europe, the United States, and Canada. This is the first case registered in the country and was detected in a dead falcon that fed on wild birds in the Lerma River basin, in the central State of Mexico.
Although the first case in Mexico with the AH5N1 variant was controlled, the authorities expressed their concern about the new virus since it has presented cases on the rise in Europe and the United States .
