UK: Chicken exports to the EU fall 60% in a year

Exports of food and drink to the EU have fallen 47% compared with Q1 2020, as a result of the on-going impacts of COVID-19 and changes in the UK’s trading relationships, according to new figures published by the Food & Drink Federation (FDF).In 2020, chicken was the third biggest export by volume to the EU from the UK, with 94.9t being sent to Europe in the first quarter. In the first quarter of 2021, this fell to 37.7t a slump of -60.3% year-on-year.The drop means exports to non-EU markets toped sales to the EU in the first quarter of 2021.
