Saudi Arabia halts import from 11 Brazilian poultry plants

10 May, 2021

Saudi Arabia has banned imports from 11 Brazilian poultry plants (seven owned by meat giant JBS). The measure was taken without explanation or prior notice.
Arab countries, which import halal products made under Muslim dietary standards, have for some time tried to reduce imports while boosting domestic meat production.
Saudi Arabia accounted for about 11 per cent of Brazil’s poultry exports last year.
