10 August, 2025

The Chief Veterinary Officer has announced the detection of the 45th outbreak of Newcastle disease (ND) in poultry in the Republic of Poland in 2025, based on the results of laboratory tests conducted by the National Veterinary Institute - National Research Institute (PIWet–PIB) in Puławy.
Outbreak no. 45/2025 was confirmed on 4 August this year, following laboratory testing of samples collected from turkeys on a commercial farm housing 78,040 slaughter turkeys in the village of Pełki, Bieżuń Commune, Żuromin County, Masovian Voivodeship.
Following the confirmation of the disease, all administrative measures required for the eradication of the ND outbreak were implemented in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/429 and Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/687. These included the culling of all birds in the affected flock, disposal at a rendering plant, thorough cleaning and disinfection, and the establishment of restricted zones with a minimum radius of 3 km and 10 km around the affected premises.
In 2025, a total of 45 ND outbreaks have been detected on commercial farms, involving over 4.5 million poultry. In addition, 33 outbreaks have been reported on non-commercial (backyard) holdings, involving a total of 1,245 birds.
