Avian influenza at Brazilian zoo

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has confirmed the deaths of 38 swans and ducks at the Sapucaia do Sul Zoo, located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, attributed to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1).
Following the reported mortalities on May 13, the Ministry of Environment and Infrastructure of Rio Grande do Sul has ordered the closure of the zoo to the public. The facility will remain closed until further notice as a precautionary measure.
