USA: Zoetis and BI receives import permit for TRT vaccine
Zoetis Inc. announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB) has granted an import permit for a modified live vaccine, Poulvac TRT, to address an increasing demand within the poultry industry for the control of turkey rhinotracheitis (TRT), an upper respiratory tract disease caused by avian metapneumovirus (aMPV).The vaccine strain is a subtype A, K strain of turkey origin.
Boehringer Ingelheim has received authorization to import two of the company’s live virus vaccines, produced and registered in the European Union: Nemovac for use in chickens and Aviffa RTI (subtype B) for use in turkeysAs of December 2024, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved the importation of a live avian metapneumovirus vaccine, Vaxxon SHS, into the U.S. market. This unprecedented approval marks a significant milestone in the efforts to combat aMPV. Vaxxon SHS is a lyophilized live attenuated aMPV vaccine containing the 1439 strain (subtype B) and was developed by Vaxxinova Italy.
