HPAI confirmed in Maryland chicken flock

Federal laboratory testing has confirmed a case of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI) on a Maryland poultry farm.  A flock of commercial layer chickens in Cecil County, Maryland.  Following an investigation by the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Veterinary Services Laboratory confirmed a Cecil County sample tested positive for HPAI. Approximately 664,000 birds will be depopulated on the affected farm. The farm is owned by ISE America company.
Another case has been reported in a commercial mixed species flock (63,530 birds) in Charles Mix County, South Dakota.
