Walmart and Kroger will not meet their announced goals for selling eggs from cage-free hens

6 November, 2022

The US grocery store chains Walmart and Kroger have announced they will not be able to supply 100% cage-free eggs by 2025, a commitment made by the companies in 2016.
The grocers blamed supply issues and the cost of production.Kroger does not expect to achieve our 2025 goal of 100% cage-free eggs, given the current rate ofsupplier transition and our customers’ demand for affordability. Kroger anticipates transitioning about 70% of eggs sold (units) to cage-free or higher standards by 2030.
