South Korea to Import Over 2 Million Table Eggs from the U.S.
Amid the spread of the Avian Influenza virus in South Korea, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced an urgent import of millions of eggs from the United States. This measure aims to stabilize the domestic market and prevent price spikes ahead of the Korean New Year.
South Korea is set to import approximately 2.16 million table eggs from the U.S. as an emergency response to shortages resulting from a large-scale bird flu outbreak. The spread of the virus in recent months has forced authorities to conduct extensive culling of laying flocks, leading to a sharp decline in local egg production. This shortage is already being felt across retail chains, marked by a consistent rise in retail prices. The first shipment of eggs from the U.S. is expected to arrive within the coming week.
