India bans use of colistin on farms

23 July, 2019

The Indian government has banned the use of colistin in food-producing animals, in a move to curb the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in humans through animals.
The Ministry of Health issued a notification prohibiting the manufacture, sale and distribution of the drug colistin and its formulations for food-producing animals, poultry, aqua farming and animal feed supplements, because such use is likely to involve risk to human beings.
