Brazil: BRF recalls chicken export products over salmonella contamination

13 February, 2019

Brazilian food processor BRF recalled almost 500 tonnes of fresh chicken products due to salmonella enteritidis contamination, in a move affecting several key export markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
BRF said in a regulatory filing it was recalling 164.7 tonnes of fresh chicken destined for the domestic market and another 299.6 tonnes destined for the international market as a precautionary measure.
The national recall represents less than 0.1 percent of the total BRF monthly production of chicken in Brazil. BRF still has some poultry plants banned by the European Union following a Brazilian police investigation into alleged bribery of health officials in the sector in 2017.
