H5N2 LPAI in the Dominican Republic

27 October, 2017

In the Dominican Republic, veterinary officials said an abnormal number of deaths and a drop in egg production beginning on Sep 30 at a commercial layer farm in Espaillat province prompted testing, which pointed to avian flu. Samples sent to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in the United States confirmed low-pathogenic H5N2. An investigation hasn't determined the source of the outbreak, which is the Dominican Republic's first since 2009.
