Report: Poultry meat recalls in EU at highest since 2002

11 August, 2017

Recalls of chicken and other poultry meats are at their highest level since 2002, according to a new report. There were 223 recalls of poultry products in Europe last quarter, with bacterial contamination responsible for more than 93% of unsafe poultry meat withdrawals, revealed Stericycle’s second quarter 2017 Recall and Notification Index. A major factor behind the high level of recalls is the recent curtailing by the EU of meat imports from Brazil (184). Other countries whose produce was responsible for large numbers of recalls included Spain (70), India (68), Turkey (60) and China (51).
