Mexico: H7N3 outbreak on commercial farm

Mexico has reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H7N3 strain on a commercial farm in the state of Jalisco. Following active surveillance on-going in Altos de Jalisco area, H7N3 avian influenza virus was isolated in a commercial layer farm (150,000 layers). The flock had been vaccinated against the disease 18 weeks beforehand; birds did not show any clinical signs. The farm, located in the town of Tepatitlan de Morelos,is under quarantine and the birds were sent to an authorized slaughterhouse near the site.
