UK: H5N1 avian influenza virus found at second farm

UK 19 November, 2007 Laboratory test results have today confirmed H5N1 Avian Influenza in turkeys at one of the Dangerous Contact premises. These premises were confirmed as a Dangerous Contact, and culling was completed on 17th November. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has said a farm at Knettishall has tested positive. The farm, Hill Meadow, belongs to the same company where the original outbreak was discovered last week at Redgrave. The 9,000 turkeys at the farm had been culled over the weekend. Hill Meadow Farm is outside a 3km protection zone set up around Redgrave Park Farm and a second 3km protection zone has now been set up around the second site.
As a result of confirming disease this now becomes the second Infected Premises.
