Hong Kong confirmed a two-month-old baby girl was infected with the H9N2 avian influenza strain, the fifth human case in the city since 1999.
The two-month-old girl, who lives with her parents in China's southern city of Shenzhen, was diagnosed with the influenza A (H9N2) infection after she developed vomiting, a cough, and a runny nose.
the virus was detected in a specimen taken from the girl's respiratory system when she was admitted to Hong Kong's Tuen Mun Hospital on December 22.
Three girls and a boy were confirmed to have been infected with H9N2 in 1999, 2003 and 2007 respectively.
