Indonesia: Two Avian Influenza Deaths

Indonesia 19 June, 2008 The Indonesian Health Ministry has reported the deaths of two women from avian influenza, easing concerns about whether Jakarta would share information about the disease.
The WHO said a 16-year old girl from Jakarta died in May from exposure to sick poultry. Earlier this month, a 34-year-old woman from Java's Banten province died this month. The cases appear unrelated.
The latest infections are the first since Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari declared two weeks ago that Indonesia had changed its policy on reporting human cases and would announce the death toll only every six months.
