UK: avian influenza confirmed in Oxfordshire

3 June, 2008

A new case of avian influenza is being investigated in free range laying hens (25,000) at a farm in Oxfordshire (in a village near Banbury). Chickens on a farm in Oxfordshire have tested positive for the H7 strain of avian influenza. All birds on the premises will be slaughtered as a precautionary measure. A temporary control zone with a 3km (1.8-mile) inner zone and a 10km (6.2-mile) outer zone is being set up.
