Japan: Dead swan in Hokkaido tests positive for avian influenza

2 May, 2008

A dead swan found in the Notsuke Peninsula in eastern Hokkaido has tested positive for avian influenza virus.
The swan was found April 24.
Earlier Thursday (2/5), the ministry began testing wild swans, geese and ducks for avian influenza in Hokkaido, Akita and Aomori prefectures. The action follows the discovery of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza in four swans near Lake Towada in Akita Prefecture on April 21.
