Chile: H1N1 in a Turkey farm

21 August, 2009 Two Chilean poultry farms are under quarantine after swine influenza was detected in turkeys, the first case of the virus found in birds. Sopraval SA, the Santiago-based producer of poultry, beef and pork products, said agricultural authorities identified the virus, also known as H1N1, in turkeys on two of the company’s farms.
Outbreak no. 1 is composed of 5 breeding premises. The outbreak started in premises no. 1 and through horizontal transmission, it reached 3 other premises. In the outbreak no. 2 of 5 existing sectors were affected.
