Russia expands flu ban to U.S. beef, poultry

28 April, 2009 Russia has suspended imports of not only U.S. pork but also U.S. beef and poultry from certain U.S. states amid concerns of a hybrid swine, avian and human influenza (H1N1) as concerns about an international outbreak grow.
The bans apply to meat and poultry produced in California, Kansas, New York, Ohio and Texas, where cases of the hybrid flu have been reported.
U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk urged all trading partners to base their decisions on scientific evidence per international obligations.
