Mites

Feather Mites in ostriches are a common problem in ostriches kept under intensive conditions and raised as farm animals.

The feather quill mite of the ostrich belongs to the Genus Gabucinia spp. and is found under normal conditions in wild or farm ostriches.

In affected farms it is important to spray the ostriches with an anti-mite product every 3-4 months during the summer in order to mantain this parasite under control.
